What the first hundred audits taught us

The failures cluster far more tightly than we expected — and almost none of them are technical.

After running the audit across a hundred early-stage sites, the pattern was clearer than anticipated. Technical checks mostly pass: modern hosting handles HTTPS, sitemaps, and meta tags without anyone thinking about it.

The gap is almost entirely in the two content pillars. Answer Selection was the weakest area on the large majority of sites, because FAQ content, comparison pages, and question-shaped headings simply are not there unless someone deliberately adds them.

Authority Signals came second. Interestingly, proof usually existed — it was just anonymous. Logo walls without names, testimonials without attribution, case studies without outcomes. The evidence was there and unusable.

The single most common individual failure was the missing category statement. Roughly two thirds of homepages never stated outright what kind of product they were.

The encouraging part: these are all same-day fixes. The typical site could move fifteen to twenty-five points with an afternoon of editing, because the gaps are copy and markup rather than infrastructure.
