llms.txt is a plain-text file, served at the root of your domain, written specifically for AI crawlers rather than humans or search engines.
Where a sitemap.xml tells a search engine what pages exist, an llms.txt tells a language model what your product is, who it is for, and which pages matter most — in condensed, unambiguous language.
A good llms.txt includes: a one-paragraph description of your product, your target audience, your core features, links to your most important pages (pricing, docs, comparison pages), and a short FAQ.
It will not guarantee a citation, but it removes ambiguity: instead of a model inferring what you do from scattered marketing copy, you are handing it a clean summary to quote from.
