Inside Structural Understanding

Entity Confidence

Entity confidence is whether an AI system can tell your brand apart from everything else with a similar name — and state what it is without hedging. It is upstream of every other signal: a system that cannot resolve who you are will not recommend you, however good your content is.

The recognition chain

Each question has to resolve before the next one matters.

Who are you?

Is there one consistent brand string across the site, metadata, and schema?

What category are you in?

Is the category stated outright, or left to be inferred from benefits?

Are you distinct from similar names?

Can the system separate you from other products with the same or similar name?

Does anyone else confirm it?

Do independent sources describe you the same way you describe yourself?

What builds entity confidence

Consistency does most of the work. One exact brand string, used everywhere — title tag, H1, metadata, schema, social profiles. Variants like "Acme", "Acme App", and "AcmeHQ" fragment the signal and make resolution harder.

Pair the name with the category wherever it appears. "Acme" alone is ambiguous; "Acme, the invoicing tool for freelancers" is self-disambiguating. Organization schema anchored to a canonical URL, plus Person schema for the founder, turns that prose into explicit facts.

Corroboration closes it. Directory listings, review platforms, and interviews that describe you the same way give the system independent confirmation it is looking at one coherent thing.

When your name collides

If you share a name with something much better known, accept that the bare name will resolve to them and optimise entirely for the paired form. Never use the name alone in a heading, a title tag, or the opening line of your llms.txt.

This is worth checking directly: ask an assistant "what is [your name]?" and see what comes back. If it describes someone else, the pairing work is your highest priority.
