What is llms.txt?

A plain-text file at your site root that summarises what your site is and points to the pages worth reading.

llms.txt is a proposed convention, published at /llms.txt, that gives AI systems a short, curated description of your site in Markdown. Think of it as a README written for machines rather than a robots.txt-style access rule.

A typical file opens with your name as a heading, a one-line summary as a blockquote, a short About section, and a list of key pages with brief descriptions of each.

It is not an official standard and adoption is uneven, so treat it as low-cost insurance rather than a guaranteed win. It takes minutes to write and cannot hurt.

The exercise has a side benefit: if you cannot summarise your site in a few lines, that is usually a sign the homepage has the same problem.
