Does Claude prefer long or short content?
Neither — it prefers content where the relevant passage is complete on its own, at whatever length that takes.
Length is not the variable. A 4,000-word guide and a 400-word answer page can both work, and both can fail. What matters is whether the passage that answers the question stands alone.
Long content fails when the answer is spread across sections and only makes sense after reading the whole thing. Short content fails when it gestures at an answer without actually giving one.
The reliable pattern at any length: a question-shaped heading, the direct answer immediately beneath, then supporting detail for readers who want it.
If you are unsure, take any section in isolation and ask whether it answers something completely. If it does not, that section will not be quoted.
